Shelby Layne Gregoire is an ambitious seventeen year-old that resides in Barre, Vermont. Shelby is currently in her senior year and is taking advanced placement and honors courses at Spaulding High School. Shelby is a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Student Council and is a member of the varsity soccer and basketball teams. Shelby was ecstatic when her team claimed the Division I Girls Basketball State Championship for the first time in Spaulding’s history this past season. Shelby plans to attend college in the fall where she will double major in English and history. Shelby’s long-term aspiration is to obtain a Masters Degree in Education, which will then enable her to teach American Studies at the High School level.

In her free time, Shelby enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing sports, cooking, baking, modeling, mentoring, and traveling when she can. The most interesting thing about Shelby is that she participated in the birth of her cousin when she was only 14 years old!

Shelby remains an active member of her community and has volunteered for various organizations such as OUR House, Girls on the Run, the Vermont Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. She is also the co-founder of her own event called “Once Upon a Story,” which promotes literacy and positive self-image in young girls in her community. In the past two years this event has collected nearly 2,000 books, which have been placed back into the hands of numerous children in Shelby’s community.

Shelby was recently accepted to the University of Vermont and will be double majoring in English and History with a minor in education to become a high school teacher.
